With over 20 years’ experience in the licensed trade, Stephen Brooker, secretary-director at the Malt Shovel in Menston, knows what he wants from his accountants.
He took over the pub in 2002, and has since concentrated on running a real community local, with traditional ales and a popular daily food menu, popular with local residents and passing tourists and walkers alike.
Having previously used the services of a specialist book-keeping firm, Stephen had to look elsewhere for someone to take care of his end-of-year accounts when the Malt Shovel became a limited company, and at the book-keepers’ suggestion, he contacted Watson Buckle.
Now, as well as taking care of the accounts, Watson Buckle provide an annual resume of the business’s performance, while partner Susan Sedgwick is always on hand to deal with any queries that crop up throughout the year.
Stephen added: “Watson Buckle are a very easy company to deal with – if I call up and ask for Susan, I’m able to speak to her, or if she’s not there the message will get passed on – it’s not like some of the larger companies you deal with where you feel you have to chase them.
