Accountants Join Bradford Bulls’ First Team

Bradford-based chartered accountants Watson Buckle are celebrating after winning a call-up to the Bradford Bulls rugby league team.

The firm has just been appointed to carry out audit and taxation work for the club, a move stemming from the relationship that has developed between the Bulls and Watson Buckle over the last five years since the accountancy practice started providing personal tax advice to some of the Bulls’ players.

David Warren, a partner at Watson Buckle and a keen Bradford Bulls fan, said: “We are delighted that the Bulls have chosen to work with us. The Bulls are such a big Bradford name – probably the best-known in the city – and as a local firm, we feel great pride that they have given us this exciting opportunity. “

Ian Illingworth, finance director at the Bradford Bulls, said: “Watson Buckle provided a quote for audit work that compared favourably with that of our existing auditors and we very much like the fact that as a Bradford firm they are right on our doorstep.”

David Warren and fellow directors Watson Buckle partner Ian Gill are keen fans of the Bradford Bulls, David so much so that has taken the microphone to commentate on games for local radio station Bradford Community Broadcasting (BCB) for the last three years.

In 2007, David became the first UK accountant to win press accreditation during a season that included a trip last June to the Bulls' Super League game against Catalan Dragons in Perpignan, France, which he reported on for BCB.

He is now branching out into football by gaining Football League accreditation for the 2007-08 season.
