Accountant Rises To Three Peaks Challenge To Aid Hospice
A partner at Bradford chartered accountants Watson Buckle has teamed up with a group of friends to raise thousands of pounds for a local charity by scaling the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales. Ian Gill linked up with a group of eight friends, plus two drivers, to tackle the National Three Peaks Challenge, which involves climbing Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis and Snowdon in under 24 hours. Watson Buckle was among a number of local businesses to provide sponsorship to support the event. |

Organised in aid of the Manorlands Hospice in the village of Oxenhope, part of the Sue Ryder Care charity, the event celebrated the tenth anniversary of the group completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, to raise money for the school their children all then attended. The friends have since continued to meet for more casual walks.
The group rose to the challenge in June, to take advantage of long hours of daylight, and completed the final peak, Snowdon, with ten minutes to spare. They have since presented nearly £8,000 to Manorlands, which provides a full range of specialist advice, support and treatment to clients at home and as inpatients.
Ian said: “Although the challenge was hard work, it was extremely satisfying to have completed it and to be able to donate a substantial sum to a very worthwhile, local cause. I would like to send a big thank you to all our sponsors and everybody else, in particular our drivers, who helped to make it all possible.”
Matthew Binns, community fundraiser at Manorlands, said: “Everyone at Manorlands would like to say thank you to those involved in this event. We really value every penny that is raised through efforts like this to support our work.”
