Accountants Say: Don’t Forget Paper Returns Deadline

Bradford based chartered accountants and business consultants Watson Buckle have urged individuals to remember that there are only a few weeks left to file paper tax returns in time to avoid the fine associated with missing the deadline.  This year is the first time that the deadline for paper returns is 31st October.

This deadline is three months earlier than the previous deadline of 31st January, which was applicable to both online and paper methods of filing.  The 31st January deadline still stands if returns are filed online.

Chris Padgett, managing partner at Watson Buckle says: “HMRC will fine those who haven’t filed their paper returns on time £100.  To avoid this, individuals must either file their paper returns by 31st October, or register for online filing and file online by the 31 January deadline.  Once returns are filed, any tax due must be paid by 31st January, regardless of whether the returns were filed by paper or online.”
